Trout fishing at Meramec Springs in Steelville, MO

This is a great spot for anglers young and old.  The river has something for every level fisherman.  I caught 15 trout on Saturday despite the early rain and a cold front.

I had great success on Panther Martin's, Brim Reapers, and Rapalas.  The panther martin was black with a gold blade the brim reaper was black, and the rapala was a brown trout pattern.
We had a good number of trout that were over 15 inches and several that were around 12-14.

The heaviest line we used was a Remington Express 4 lb in green.  It worked very well.
The locals were fishing with red salmon eggs and a small split shot.  This worked fantastic, however once we entered the trophy area we were only allowed to use artificial lures.
The weather for fathers day looks promising.  Due to its location and great fishing, this is the perfect trip for a father and young fisherman this fathers day.

  1. Nathan used the Cicada crankbait. They were hitting it on the top before it was moving.
every trout we cleaned had a belly full of cicada's.

  2. What is the best lure or bait for hatchery trout in missouri rivers?

We had luck with the salmon eggs in the Meremac Springs, and the rapalas seemed to work well in the meramec river.
